Job Posting: Freelance Art Director – Los Angeles

Slate Studios is a premier content production company with our flagship studios based in New York. As we expand on the West Coast, we’re looking to bring on a talented Freelance Art Director in Los Angeles to help lead our creative output across fashion, beauty, and lifestyle projects. We’re seeking someone with a strong visual point of view and deep knowledge of the creative culture in Los Angeles.
Drive the visual direction of campaigns and content across photo, video, and digital platforms
Collaborate with photographers, stylists, HMU artists, set designers, and other creatives to develop and execute impactful visual narratives
Create mood boards, storyboards, and art direction decks for client presentations and internal use
Guide the CGI team to ensure consistency and cohesion across digital and physical content
Stay ahead of trends in fashion, beauty, culture, and art in the Los Angeles market—and integrate them into creative direction
Work closely with clients to translate briefs into compelling creative concepts
Lead creative reviews and provide feedback to junior designers and production collaborators
Minimum 3 years of experience as an Art Director or in a similar creative leadership role
Strong portfolio showcasing a range of visual storytelling and art direction across fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and/or entertainment
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator); familiarity with Figma, Keynote, and motion tools is a plus
Experience in branding and identity development
Comfortable directing both still and motion shoots
Working knowledge of UX/UI and digital design best practices
Confident communicator with the ability to pitch and present ideas to clients and teams
Excellent eye for composition, color, typography, and visual cohesion
Based in the Los Angeles area and available for in-person productions
