Job Description

Coming this summer, NYC will be home to a new, exciting bakery and we’re looking for a talented and dynamic Head Baker to join our team. This role will report directly to ownership and be responsible for running the day to day operations of the back of house. You will lead the baking team in a positive, fast-paced, high-energy environment - contributing to recipe development, baking processes, and shaping the overall direction of the business. Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently plan and execute daily baking operations
  • Manage scaling of ingredients, mixing, and prep work
  • Uphold highest standards for product quality and consistency
  • Train, supervise, and motivate tight-knit bakery staff
  • Foster collaborative, positive, and efficient kitchen culture
  • Manage team interviewing, hiring, training, and scheduling
  • Work with owner to develop new menu items
  • Oversee inventory, ordering, and deliveries. Minimize waste.
  • Manage food and labor costs
  • Ensure raw materials are labeled and stored properly
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. Adhere to all health and safety standards.
  • Create welcoming environment when interacting with customers and FOH staff

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 4+ years of professional baking experience preferred, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Experience in high-volume environments is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills
  • Attention to detail and unwavering commitment to maintaining quality standards
  • Experience with mixing, bench work, proofing, and baking enriched dough
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs without restrictions
  • Ability to stand and/or bend for extended periods of time
  • Strong sense of urgency and time management skills
  • Dependable, hard-working, and self-motivated
  • Meticulously clean and aware of all food safety standards; NYC Food Handler’s License a plus
  • Commitment to contributing to building bakery’s reputation from the ground up
  • Must be able to work early mornings, weekends, and some holidays

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
