Job Description

The heart of Eckhart’s menu is food that goes well with beer and brings people together. We aim to reflect a thoughtful, concise and seasonally relevant approach to food that supports the quality and style of beer being brewed and served. The food program strives to find a through-line from the brewery to the taproom using both ingredients found in beer as well as byproducts of the brewing process along with fresh, interesting and quality ingredients to make a complete dining experience with a respect to the culinary heritage of those regions where these beers have been traditionally brewed. 

Who we are looking for:

The Sous Chef will be responsible for leading and managing the kitchen staff and ensuring a positive guest experience. This is a hands-on role that requires working closely with the team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the kitchen staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and addressing any personnel issues
  • Ensure that all staff members maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including wearing the required uniform
  • Work with the chef to create and implement menus, specials, and recipes
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, quality control, and inventory management
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, breaking down daily and lead weekly deep cleaning sessions
  • Ensure that all food safety and sanitation standards are met
  • Resolve guest issues and work with front-of-house staff to provide excellent service
  • Assist with ordering and inventory management
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the chef or management

Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork
  • Culinary expertise and a passion for food
  • Ability to follow recipes and maintain high standards of quality
  • Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • NYC Food Handlers card required; if you do not have one, you must be able to obtain one before opening

Compensation

  • Salary: $65-70,000/year, based on experience
